As fall descends on Baltimore, it brings with it cooler weather--and the gift of being able to once again layer on those wonderful items you missed during the summer months. Funky scarves can protect delicate necks from fall breezes, chunky sweaters can be pulled from their hiding places to swath their owners in warmth and skinny jeans can once again meet with the tall boots with which they pair so well. It is officially time to prepare your key pieces for fall:

Scarves - Light scarves, thick scarves and pashminas are all essential pieces for fall. You can see people adorned in silk versions, printed versions, and pops of color all over the city. You can find yours at Garage Clothing in Towson Town Centre. They have several varieties and are currently on sale: 2 scarves for $15.

Flats - As it becomes too chilly for your little piggys to be exposed, turn to the sandal's warmer cousin: the flat. Flats are perfect for those crisp fall days spent strolling along downtown for great food and shopping. DSW in Towson Marketplace has two floors of shoes to peruse and a selection of flats ranging in appearance from the basics to metallic, animal printed and accented; and ranging in price from approximately $30 - 60.

Sweaters - It is at this time of year that a simple cardigan or a chunky knit sweater--over jeans with a basic tee, or even a simple cotton dress--can both keep you warm and add comfort and spice to your outfit. The "Central Park West Fringe Duster" and "Shae Fringe Cardigan" at South Moon Under are impossibly chic and the length on each is perfect for layering. The "525 America Fairislse Wrap Sweater" calls to mind the coziness of a ski chalet and a steaming mug of hot chocolate. Shop South Moon Under in Towson or Harbor East.

Blazers - Celebrities, like Kim Kardashian and LaLa Vasquez are huge fans of the blazer. They've been spotted often rocking them with skinny jeans or leggings and pumps--a look that is tres fall appropriate. Right now you can find military inspired blazers, professional blazers and even blazers with animal accents at Marshall's. Shop Towson, Golden Ring or Columbia for their discounted fashions.

Oversized Sweatshirts - Last year saw a resurgence in '80s fashion and it hasn’t gone away just yet. Get comfy this fall in an oversized sweatshirt--you can even show off those feminine shoulders in an off-the-shoulder version. Pair with skinny jeans and flats for the perfect every day casual look. Forever 21 has an assortment of raglan tops and pullover cotton tops that suit this style perfectly. The Towson and Mondawmin locations have 2 floors of goodies to choose from.

Boots - Boots, with their ability to punch up the glam factor on any outfit, are making their grand re-entrance for the season as well. Of note, are stiletto booties, riding boots and over-the-knee (OTK) boots that are still on-trend and available in many styles and varieties. Bare Feet Shoes has inexpensive versions at their various Baltimore locations.

I don't love cold weather but I do love fall clothes! I must admit that I'm happy about the scarves and boots and sweaters that come with the colder weather. I'd like to go to Towson Town Center one day soon, too. I haven't been there in years and it's all kinds of brand new now, so I hear.
