I used to find myself over- or under-packing things for a weekend away, and now that summer’s here, I’m sure there will be plenty of weekend trips whether exploring parks or attending conferences. So what do you pack? Everything is either essential or can be purchased “when you get there,” but save yourself the money and hassle and stick with these basic items.
- An outfit for each day. Don’t change multiple times a day if you don’t have too. Try to avoid packing two pairs of blue jeans for a two-day trip.
- Underwear and socks for each day (pack an extra of each)
- If you can wear one pair of shoes for the whole trip, don’t pack extra pairs. Think black shoes, flats, walking shoes and loafers. Flip-flops also essential for beach trips and don’t take up much space.
- Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, face wash, lotion, make-up/hair-product bag, vitamins)
Adjust as necessary. For example, if you are going to a weekend business conference you will need the more formal versions of the basics (slacks instead of jeans, blazers instead of jacket, etc.). Also, if you are bringing a makeup bag, bring ONLY what you will put on your face… no extra eyeliners or compacts taking up valuable space.
