The Lincoln County Apple Festival will take place Saturday, September 21 in downtown Lincolnton, N.C. The event will officially start at 9 a.m. and will wrap up at 4 p.m. The festival is organized by a group of volunteers and is a non-profit organization. The Lincoln County Cooperative Extension serves as the organizing agency that partners with the city, and county authorities to put on this long-standing event.
One will be able to support several local farms, charities, and small businesses by attending the Apple Festival. Try a taste of different apple based dishes from ice cream to apple pies and fritters. There are things to enjoy of all ages. A few things to note include First Presbyterian which opens its gates for visitors to rest and relax in the shaded park beside the church on West Main Street. The park includes a play area for children to enjoy and provides free cool water for everyone.
If you have a need for special parking, Emmanuel Lutheran Church has agreed to make their parking lot available for individuals who will be visiting the festival in wheelchairs or who have otherwise limited mobility. The church is located on south Aspen Street. It is limited in size and therefore, they request you call ahead to make reservations. Reservations can be made by calling the Extension office at 704-736-8452. Please have your tag number, make, and model of the vehicle, as well as driver's name ready when calling.Additional spaces will also be designated for this purpose in a portion of the Bank of America parking lot on South Aspen Street.
For those that do not want to try to drive around and find parking, the Kiwanis are again providing a shuttle from Lincolnton High School parking lot to the courthouse. The fee for the shuttle is just $1.00 per round trip.
The opposite side of the festival, on the eastern side of Main Street, Freedom Church, will open their doors for a cool zone during the festival. Feel free to come in and sit at a table to eat your lunch or get some refreshing ice cold water from the fountain. The Youth Center, located at 102 Courtsquare, part of Freedom church will also be open as a cool zone. Rest room facilities and cold water are available at both locations.
The Lincoln County Parks and Recreation department is once again sponsoring the Apple Decorating contest to be held Saturday, September 21, 2013.Youth ages four through twelve may enter two categories: edible and non-edible. Entries must be submitted to the Parks & Recreation booth located near the Kids Orchard by 10 a.m. the day of the festival. Winners will be displayed at noon. All entries should be picked up by 2 p.m. There is also a competition on apple recipes and dishes from all ages. There are plenty of fun activities for kids besides the eating of yummy apple based goodies. You can find the kids activities by locating the Kids Apple Orchard on either side of the James Warren Citizen Center where they have the opportunity to milk a cow and enjoy a few rides. Temporary tattoos will also be available for purchase at the Parks & Recreation booth nearby.
