Gearbox Software detailed on Friday what “Borderlands 2” fans can look forward to with the addition of the game’s new Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode this coming Tuesday. In order to begin the third playthrough, players must have first beaten True Vault Hunter Mode and reached level 50. Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode can be replayed endless times, gamers have the option to reset their mission progress at any point. Players also won’t have to go through the Claptrap tutorial during the third playthrough either. The new DLC mode begins outside Liar’s Berg on the Southern Self, just past the Knuckledragger boss fight.

Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode is meant to be challenging, so the DLC ups the power-level of the enemies found within “Borderlands 2.” First off all, all enemy health has been increased roughly four times the normal amount and everything now has health regeneration. To make up for the higher difficulty, the third playthrough strengthens Slag effects done by the player and encourages its use by increased the effect’s duration, changing Slag damage to a 3x multiplayer, and increasing weapon swapping speed so players can more easily switch to weapons with the Slag effect.

Borderlands 2” is out now on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC/Mac. Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode will be available as a free download on April 2. Fans can also choose to purchase an additional DLC to increase the game’s level-cap from 50 to 61 on the same day. This extra DLC will be free to all who purchased the game’s Season Pass and $5 to all others.
