People in the Tri- Cities are talking about playing a new game with the silliest of names: cornhole! What in the world is cornhole? It might bring up an image like the above photo. You can come to Bristol for the 2011 Rhythm & Roots Cornhole Tournament and find out all about it.
Cornhole, or Corn Toss, is actually a game that has some origin in antiquity, although no one is positive of where and when. It gained momentum during the 1990's on college campuses, (of course, where else?) It is played outside, somewhat like croquet used to be played.
There is an inclined board with a hole in it into which players throw bean bags filled with feed corn, scoring points for specific things. The rules are actually very complicated, and you can read more about that here. There is also an organization to advance the sport, The American Cornhole Association.
Bristol's 2011 Rhythm and Roots Cornhole Tournament will take place on September 17th at 11:30 am. Find out more details and register your team here. The event will be held in a parking lot across from the Country Mural Stage on State Street.
