During the summer months, HOUSE MD may not be filming, but that doesn’t mean the stars of the FOX show aren’t busy. Here is a little about what your favorite television actors and actresses are doing during the hiatus.
Hugh Laurie
Most notably, Hugh has been riding the waves of success from his blues CD “Let Them Talk”. Hugh has also been spending time in New Zealand filming Mr. Pip, based on Lloyd Jones’ award-winning novel. He will play Mr. Watts, the last white man left on the civil war-torn island of Bougainville during the 1990 blockade by Papua New Guinea. He reopens a school and uses his favorite novel (Great Expectations) to inspire students.
Director Andrew Adamson says of the film, “" It's a challenging film on so many levels . . . logistically challenging, thematically challenging ... it's dealing with two different realities. It's a beautiful story but it has quite a lot of tragedy in it and balancing all those things has been interesting."
Hugh will be also be a part of a new animated film coming this November called Arthur Christmas, also starring James McAvoy, Jim Broadbent, Matt Lucas and Bill Nighy. You can watch the trailer at GamutNews.com
One place Hugh was not over the summer, unfortunately, was the Critics’ Choice TV Awards on June 20th. He was not nominated for Best Drama Actor, nor was HOUSE MD nominated for Best Drama Series. Hopefully, HOUSE fans, we will have better luck on July 14th when the nominations for the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced (telecast scheduled for September 18th).
Lisa Edelstein
As you know, our favorite Dean of Medicine will not be returning for Season 8. Some sources had her replacing Captain Montgomery on Castle, but that rumor has been squashed by Entertainment Weekly. She will though appear in several episodes of the upcoming third season of “The Good Wife”, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Lisa recently visited Access Hollywood Live to promote their monthly pet adoption day in association with Best Friends Animal Society. As an animal-rights activist, she encourages everyone when looking for a pet, to choose a rescue pet instead of those sold by “puppy mills.” Check out Bestfriends.org to search for adoptable pets in your state or to learn more about how to get involved with the group’s initiatives.
In May, Lisa joined costars Jesse Spencer, Omar Epps, and Amber Tamblyn and HOUSE creator David Shore on a tour of Israeli hospitals. They were allowed to use robotic tools during a visit to the Sheba Medical Center’s medical simulation ward at Tel Hashomer. (Grey’s Anatomy fans – Kevin McKidd and Sarah Drew have also visited Israel this summer. The pair used robotic tools at the Hadassah University Medical Center at Ein Kerem.)
Robert Sean Leonard
As you know, the Broadway play “Born Yesterday” with Robert Sean Leonard, Jim Belushi, and Nina Arianda will close this weekend. Leonard commuted between LA and NYC for two months during filming of Season Seven episodes of House to perform the play, but he called the opportunity “a wonderful problem to have.”
Omar Epps
“A Day in the Life” starring Omar along with Kirk ‘Sticky Fingaz’ Jones, Mekhi Phifer, Michael Rapaport, Bokeem Woodbine will be released on June 27, 2011 on DVD. The feature has all of the actors rapping through all of their dialogue. The Film Pilgrim has a great review of the film.
Omar has also participated in a Public Service Announcement with Tom Arnold, Cher, Minnie Driver, Sara Rue, and Steven Weber aimed to promote a toll-free suicide prevention help line for soldiers, veterans, and military family members. The PSA’s will air on the Military Channel beginning this week.
Omar will also be celebrating his 37th birthday on July 20th.
Olivia Wilde
Olivia Wilde, still adamant that she isn’t dating anyone in particular, but instead calls her dog Paco “my only boyfriend, the only one that I need,” was recently in beautiful Maui where she received the Female Shining Star award at the Maui Film Festival. The film that she produced with Maria Bello – Sun City Picture House, a documentary centered around Haitian earthquake victims’ efforts to build a make shift movie theater – won for documentary short.
In a picture posted by celebrity-gossip.net, we see just how beautiful she is, even without makeup (One request, Olivia. PLEASE STOP SMOKING! We want you around for a long time!)
The film Cowboys and Aliens is set to release on July 29th. This Science Fiction/Western combination film also stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Paul Dano, Clancy Brown, Sam Rockwell, Adam Beach and Noah Ringer. If you can’t wait until then, remember that Tron: Legacy is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
Peter Jacobson
Today, Cars 2 begins playing in theaters nationwide. Peter Jacobson plays Acer, a beat-up green AMC Pacer who joins forces with fellow “lemon” cars as henchmen for the devious Professor Z whose mission is to wreak havoc at the World Grand Prix in Japan. So far, the animated Pixar film has gotten terrific reviews.
Peter also attended “The Hospital for Special Surgery Gala” at the Waldorf Astoria. The annual dinner event raised $2.5 million. He’s not a doctor (but plays one on TV) but people do really frequently ask his professional medical opinion, he says.
Jennifer Morrison
While awaiting the fall launch of her new series “Once Upon a Time”, Jennifer spent time in Puerto Rico this June at the 2nd Annual Amaury Nolasco and Friends Golf Glassic. She has also participated in Montblanc’s 24-Hour Plays which benefited the Urban Arts Partnership in LA. The shows are called such because they take only 24 hours to create, write and rehearse.
HOUSE MD will be back this fall with the Season 8 premiere scheduled for MONDAY, OCTOBER 3! Who will be House's new boss? Read TVLine's thoughts on this here.
