What the heck is an Elliptigo?

Is it a bike? Not really! Is it a running machine? Well sort of. Is it an elliptical? I think so! Truth be told, it is the best of all three. An Elliptigo steers like a bike and has bike gears, tires, and brakes. It is a running caliber work out without impact pain. It has an elongated elliptical path of motion. I think a good definition would be a super charged outdoor elliptical.

Running on a bike?

Is it easy to ride? It has a 3 to 5 second learning curve for most people because taking off is a little different. You have a very short push off like a scooter. Standing gives people more balance than sitting. Think of it this way, pushing someone off a stool is easier than pushing someone to the ground that is standing. The turning radius is slightly longer than a bike so it takes a little getting used to. It is like the first time someone drives a SUV that has only driven a car. Like a SUV it does burn more fuel, but for once that is a good thing!

Is it a good workout? The answer to that is a big yes. Endurance athletes of all styles are using these as cross training workouts. The elliptigo uses the large muscle groups more intensely and efficiently than any other outdoor exercise machine.

Is it fun? That is for you to decide, but people who have tried it keep raving about it. Go to to find a place to test ride one. In the Chicago-land region go to to try one.
