What the Big Brother competitions are all about

With the new season of Big Brother rapidly approaching, there may be those out there who are curious about what kind of entertainment is to be found by watching the house guests live in this house ostracized from the world for twelve weeks.  One of the most exiting parts of Big Brother is definitely the competitions.

There are several different kinds of competitions that you will watch on Big Brother which usually fall into three different categories.  There are the head of household, HoH, veto, and the ever popular food competitions.  Each of these play vital roles in the house strategy and offer a ton of exciting TV.

The HoH competition is a weekly competition which decides who will be the Head of Household for the week in the house.  The HoH will get his or her own private bedroom which includes a TV that has access to the various cameras throughout the house.  As well, the HoH will receive a package from home which typically includes letters, pictures, favorite foods.  Head of Household is as it sounds, the guy who gets to make the decisions in the house for the week.  The only real decision that the HoH will wind up making, however, is who are the two candidates for eviction from the house.  Each week one person must go to narrow the playing field and the HoH gets to decide who will be up on the chopping block each week!  So it is an important job, one which everyone wants and one which has even better benefits to it other then just the responsibility.  The next competition can take one of the HoH's eviction nominations off the block, this of course is the veto competition.

The Power of Veto or PoV competition simply put allows the winner to take one of the HoH's eviction nominations off of the chopping block for the week.  This can include themselves if they are on the block.  The prize for winning this competition is referred to as the power of veto and is symbolized by a golden ghost buster emblem which is strapped to a red strap which hangs around the neck.  The holder of this can choose not to use the power to safeguard the HoH's picks.  The veto competition is peculiar in that only 5 house guests are permitted to play.  The HoH, the two eviction nominees, and two others that can be random or house guest picks.  Its always an intense competition with the nominees fighting for survival, the HoH fighting to secure his picks, and the other two house guests fighting for a bit of strategic power.

The last competition you'll see on a regular basis is the food competition.  This is always a crazy competition where all the house guests separate into two teams and battle it out in various ways in order to secure food for their team or the house.  The losing team will be relegated to eating slop!  Slop is a Big Brother concoction which is rumored to taste terrible, looks like oatmeal with some extra lumps and browner.  Typically there will always wind up someone in the house who is on slop for long periods of time.  These house guests are especially fun to watch because they'll kick in their moaning and groaning all the louder.  Good stuff.

So thats about it for the regular competitions in the house, keep checking back for more on Big Brother 11.
