What should the Seattle Seahawks do with their first round draft picks?

With the 6th and 14th pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks are sitting in a very good position. They have options, draft a couple of blue chip prospects, trade one of those picks away to possible acquire additional picks, or work a trade to move up and get one of the studs of this draft.

On the list of Seahawks needs we see they could use a new QB, a LT, and OG, a RB, and some help in their defensive secondary. With two picks in the top half of the first round, it seems reasonable that they have a chance to address two of those needs.

The only real dilemma for this team is trying to determine if one of t he 2010 QB prospects is worthy of the 6th overall pick. It seems likely that Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen will still be on the board when the ‘Hawks make their first selection. If they are sold on one of these players, they go QB with this pick.

If they are not sold on one of the QB prospects they will likely take one of the top tier OT’s here. At six it seems likely only Oklahoma State, OT, Russell Okung will be off the board. That means the ‘Hawks would have their pick of Anthony Davis, Bruce Campbell, or Trent Williams. Any one of these three players would fill their need for a new LT.

With the 14th pick in the first round things get a little murkier. It would make sense for the Seahawks to go after a running back here. Having addressed their offensive line with the sixth pick, and needing some strong yards on the ground to help take the pressure off whoever takes over the QB position in 2010.

Since Pete Carroll is now the Head Coach in Seattle a strong case could be made to address the secondary here, and wait to draft USC RB Joe McKnight later in the draft. However in most mock drafts the two best DB prospects are off the board by this point.

Given that let us think outside the box for a moment. Why not take OG Mike Iupati here. That way the offensive line will be rebuilt, the would still have a chance to draft McKnight in later rounds, and lay the ground work for a future QB acquired in the draft or via free agency.

For a team that gave up 41 sacks in 2009, there could be a lot worse ways to go in the 2010 NFL Draft.

OK, I like your take on it, the Seahawks are an "offense-first" franchise. They have taken a slew of defensive players as of late, but their offense has turned stale and lackluster. Everyone in Seattle, (fans that is), knows that Seattle needs a new, top flight left tackle. But dynamic playmakers have become stars for other teams while we have drafted defensive ends, cornerbacks, and linebqackers, as our offense stagnates. We need stars, where are they?
