What should Obama tell us about childhood obesity and health care?

President Barack Obama will speak to the American people this evening about his healthcare reform plan.

Yesterday he talked to our children about the importance of education.

Childhood obesity is key to both education and health care since it is the number one health threat in our country, according to the most recent U.S. Surgeon General report.

In addition, the same habits that make kids stronger on the pull-up bar also make them stronger in reading, writing, and arithmetic.

One group thinks that Obama should emphasize pull-ups in his speech tonight, since childhood obesity is key to both education and health care.

“Then he should turn and demonstrate one simple pull-up right there on stage so that everyone in the audience knows precisely what he's talking about,” says the Operation Pull Your Own Weight newsletter.

The group believes that one statement from Obama would send everyone scrambling to have kids learn pull-ups, “and to naturally immunize themselves against obesity for life.

"The President's Council on Physical Fitness could play an active role by recruiting Tiger Woods, Lance Armstrong, Shawn Johnson, and the Williams sisters (etc.) to do public service announcements encouraging kids to pull their own weight,” suggest the authors.

“The Council could develop an official Pull Your Own Weight Club website and make Sasha and Malia charter members...if and when they can perform at least one pull-up, of course."

Michelle could even get into the act by hosting a forum for parents about obesity and pulling your own weight.

I'd love to see that...although i suspect tonight is going to be a lot of numbers tossed our way and then everyone arguing about them tomorrow.
