What’s Your "O" Story?

The time has finally arrived.  Oprah, the reigning Queen of daytime talk television, has officially said goodbye to her millions of fans via a special two-day farewell broadcast.    Just like many other iconic events that have taken place throughout the years, people will remember where they were or whom they were with and what they were doing when Oprah said goodbye for the last time.

Millions around the world are recounting their Oprah stories to friends and strangers alike.  My brief O story revolves around some encouragement she gave me when I was producing the “National Black Business Report,” a business public affairs program I was struggling to syndicate.  Her willingness to respond and encourage me motivated me to continue the production for three seasons during which the show broadcast to some 14 million households in the U.S. and Caribbean .

Over the past twenty-five years her daily dose of positive energy and personal perspective has had a similar effect on celebrities and non-celebrities alike.  This is what truly makes her “one of a kind.”  Fans and friends will be hosting parties, recording the final shows and posting their feelings online.  The lady known for having the Midas touch moves ahead to charting the future of the Oprah Winfrey Network, and my guess is that millions of her fans and viewers will follow.
