Like everyone else this time of year, we find ourselves reflecting, reviewing, and resetting goals. We are excited with anticipation about what's to come, but, if we're honest, we're probably a little nervous, too.
That's normal! We should be both nervous and excited about the year's end and the endless possibilities to come in the new year. What we should all be on the lookout for is that four-lettered word that will stop any of us in our tracks: F.E.A.R.
I have a new acronym to define F.E.A.R:
- F: Fierce- The 'forces' of FEAR can be fierce as they attempt to keep you from achieving your goals.
- E: Everywhere- The 'forces' of FEAR are all around, whether they be other people, life events, etc. However, the most powerful 'force' of FEAR is YOU-your mindset and attitude will either keep you on the right track or YOU will be self-defeating.
- A: Attitude- What is your attitude to conquer your FEAR? Are you taking advantage of opportunities that are directly in front of you? Or, are you sulking, whining, complaining, and blaming others for your mental, physical, and financial laziness? YOU decide!
- R: Resilient- Are you going to stay stuck in 2011? Or, are you going to revise your goals, get the skills, training, or wisdom you need to press forward? Is one negative person or comment going to keep you down? Be Resilient.
As you reflect on 2010, honestly look at your accomplishments, strengths and weaknesses. Admit your mistakes and be aware of the areas you didn't even touch because of the powerful FEAR. But, be very careful; You should not get stuck in your F.E.A.R.
Get the skills, knowledge, and other resources you need to accomplish what you need to do. There will be many articles giving advice, tips, and 'how-to' lists, but, if YOU don't make good decisions, YOU won't accomplish anything.
Surround yourself with the right people. Network and support the groups where you will both grow and give-back. It's all up to YOU.
The clock is ticking. In the blink of an eye, 2011 will be here. Where will YOU be? Not physically, but in your mental attitude that will determine your aptitude. Don't let FEAR stop you.
Happy New Year!
