Great now thanks to this federal agency: the U.S. Preventive Service Task Force, which falls under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Insurance Companies might be considering revising their policies in regards to paying for mammograms!

Why in the Sam Hill would a group of doctors (none of whom are oncologist) come out with such a policy? Well, they are saying that it's because the damage to the women who get mammograms is worse than the damage to women if they don't. Well, I don't know about you but the saying: " When somebody else loses their job it's a recession but when you lose your job it's a depression" should be modified to say: When somebody else does not detect breast cancer it's a tragedy but when you don't detect breast cancer it could be your death warrant should applied.
Sadly, government officials might be behind this decision because all they talk about is how much money health care is costing and what can be saved and not least of all because this is the lead federal agency on quality research. Here is an excerpt of this organization's scope and purpose in their own words from their website http://www.ahrq.gov/CLINIC/uspstfix.htm :
"The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) was established in 1989 as the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. Reauthorizing legislation passed in November 1999 establishes AHRQ as the lead Federal agency on quality research. AHRQ, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the lead agency charged with supporting research designed to improve the quality of health care, reduce its cost, and broaden access to essential services. AHRQ's broad programs of research bring practical, science-based information to medical practitioners and to consumers and other health care purchasers".
Now, we have on the one hand, the greedy medical insurance companies already considering changing their mammogram policies for women and on the other a federal government agency aiding and abetting them. What's up with that? It doesn't matter if rationing is done by private insurance companies or by the U.S. Government it is wrong! And, if the idea of saving insurance companies or governmental health agencies money is behind the decision of this government agency than they should be ashamed of themselves !
