What's so special about this Barbie doll? 'Amy Grant' Barbie doll (with slideshow)

No, Mattel is not making an Amy Grant Barbie doll, but maybe they should! Read on to see what I mean.

Amy Grant's Second Annual Amy Grant & Friends Yard Sale

Amy Grant hosted her Second Annual Amy Grant Yard Sale October 24 at David Lipscomb University in Nashville. It had all the usual paraphernalia you would expect at a yard sale - just more of it as there were about 14 tents and maybe 80 tables of merchandise altogether. However, among the piles of plates, glassware and linens, a blond Barbie - a very naked blonde Barbie - lay on a table marked "Gill" along with a naked Bratz doll and an equally unclothed Ariel (the Little Mermaid) doll.

"Is this your Barbie," I asked Amy Grant who was manning the table and autographing a few of the items people purchased. "Well, no, not mine," she laughed. "If it's naked, and it's a Barbie, it's my daughter's!" Grant said with a fond smile referring to youngest daughter Corinna Grant Gill, who is 8 years old.

I purchased the pretty blond Barbie doll thinking about fixing it up for a giveaway or photo display. Probably originally a butterfly Barbie or fairy Barbie, this doll has dainty ballerina arms, pretty face paint, a place to insert wings, and long blond hair that was just begging to be combed and restyled, and I had just purchased a Barbie Halloween dress for which I needed a model.

Amy Grant Autographs Barbie

Then I remembered being at doll shows where Mel Odom signed his Gene dolls or Robert Tonner signed his Tyler dolls, discretely on the lower back, so I pulled Barbie out of the bag and approached Amy Grant again. She was surprised when I asked her to sign my Barbie, but she gamely flipped Babs over and signed her back. (See slideshow below for more photos.)

Barbie Sale Benefits Worthy Causes

The best part is it was all for a good cause - that's what makes this Barbie doll so special. The Amy Grant & Friends Yard Sale benefitted two local charities, Project Redesign and Project S.E.E. That Amy Grant really is a doll!
