It is already July 4, 2014, the Independence Day holiday on the East Coast and a lot folks are already wondering what stores including Costco, Walmart, Target, Home Depot are open and closed for the Fourth of July holiday.

Below is an updated list, thanks to folks at the Saving Advice in an article published on Wednesday If you have any additional stores you would like to be included, please share them with readers in the comments section below.

The bad news for Costco shoppers but not Costco employees is that Costco stores will be closed on the Fourth of July. Costco holidays are Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Independence Day (AKA 4th of July) Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Costco remains open on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day in January, Presidents Day and other holidays not mentioned above.

The BJ's Wholesale Club stores will be open on July 4, but for their regular Sunday hours, 9 a.m. -8 p.m.

All Lowe's stores will be open regular hours on the Fourth of July.

Best Buy stores will be open regular hours today, July 4, 2014. The store will have a special sale that day.

Macy's stores will be open today with special Fourth of July sales throughout the store.

Sears stores will be open July 4, with Independence Day sales.

Walmart stores are open on July 4, most with regular Friday hours, but call ahead to year store to make sure before you leave the house.

Target stores will be also be open on Friday, July 4, 2014. Target often honors other holidays, but it will be a working day this Independence day.

All banks will be closed on July 4, 2014.

The stock market will be closed on the Fourth of July

Almost all schools will be closed on July 4, 2014.

Most public transit agencies will operate on a Sunday schedule on July 4.

Most supermarkets including Safeway will remain open on July 4.

There will be no mail delivery on July 4, 2014 and most Post Offices will remain closed.

Bottom line

Most stores will be open on July 4, with the notable exception of Costco. Costco will reopen on Saturday, July 5, 2014. But the other big stores including Walmart and Target will remain open during the July 4th holiday.
