Christmas Eve 2013 has arrived at last this year, with Christmas Day, Dec. 25, right around the corner. Amid all the hustle and bustle, people across the nation are left wondering what’s open and what’s closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, including holiday hours for banks, the post office and mail service, and both stores and restaurants. Fortunately, there’s answers to save shoppers and errand runners time and money. The IB Times reveals this Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, an excellent list of which stores and restaurants are open and closed (as well as time frames for each), while AreBanksOpen tells of holiday hours for U.S. banks, post offices, and mail delivery services.

For those who wish to know what banks are open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, there won’t be many. Most major banking sources, including the Bank of America, Fifth Third, JP Morgan Chase, and Northern Trust, are all closed on both holidays, Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 this 2013. However, a majority of banks are scheduled to open again starting Thursday, Dec. 26, and set to carry over their normal hours of business at that time until New Year’s. Future bank closures and specific bank information can also be viewed here at the source site.

At this time of year, people are also frequently asking what time the post office closes on Christmas Eve, and whether this 2013 there will be mail delivery on Christmas Day. Not to worry.

If Christmas gift givers are hoping to still send something before the special holiday starts via USPS, they unfortunately missed the deadline, as those wanting to ship gifts to make it in time for Christmas is already over. All packages and letters mailed starting this Tuesday, Christmas Eve, will be delivered at the very earliest on Thursday, after the Wednesday Christmas holiday this year. Mail delivery is not scheduled at all on Christmas Day because as cited by USPS, it is a federal holiday.

According to the press release, people aiming to pick up last minute gifts or send mail that will be reached after the holiday aren’t out of luck yet, however. Most post offices are still open until noon on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, this 2013. These USPS branches will provide mail delivery as normal to local homes and/or businesses throughout Christmas Eve, then close on Christmas Day, and finally return to usual scheduling hours on Thursday, Dec. 26, following the end of the holiday.
