There is a lot going on this weekend. There’s a lot of theater, some new movies, and even a film festival. So if you’re ready, here’s a list of what’s going down this weekend.
The Jewish Film Festival
Running until January 29th, this film festival spotlights all that great in Jewish film. Tonight is opening night and it kicks off with a screening of Reuniting the Rubins at the Intracoastal 8 Cinemas, a film about a family separated by life who are brought back together when an ailing grandmother requests that her grandchildren be reunited. Gables Stage at the Biltmore
The Motherf**ker with the Hat. Play.
Actor’s Playhouse at the Miracle Theater
Alexander Who’s Not Not Not Gonna Move. Children’s play.
Next to Normal – A musical take on woman with manic depression and the toll that it takes on her family. If you’re looking for lighthearted fare, this is not it but it does have some moments of levity. For tickets and showtimes to this Tony award winning play, click here.
Adrienne Arsht Center
NE 2nd Avenue – A look back of the Miami of old performed by one man, Teo Castellanos. For tickets and showtimes for this one-man show, click here.
Pinecrest Gardens
Shakespeare in the Park – A free event and fun for the whole family. Tonight’s featured play is A Midsummer Night’s Dream. See website for showtimes.
Byron Carlyle Theater
Song Man Dance Man – This one-man show was brought by popular demand. This tribute to the likes of Gene Kelley, Fred Astaire, Sammy Davis, Jr. and many others runs through the weekend. See website for more details.
Movies
Underworld: Awakening – The death dealer returns and this time her enemy is us. Rated R. Action/Fantasy.
Haywire – A black ops soldier seeks revenge after her former bosses betray her. Rated R. Action.
Red Tails – A biopic about the Tuskegee Airmen, black airmen who fought during World War II for a country who didn’t even consider them to be equal citizens at the time. Directed by George Lucas. Action. Rated PG-13.
