What's New This Weekend: January 3, 2013

Everyone is still recovering from their holiday hangovers so many haven’t even thought about this weekend activities. Still if you want to take your honey out for an independent film or treat yourself to a theater performance, there are a few options you can choose from. If you’re calling it a night and staying in after the New Year’s excitement, there’s plenty to watch on TV, which is rare for a weekend. So put the down that awful hangover veggie concoction and treat yourself to a weekend to rival even the most joyous holiday.

This burlesque meets play stage show takes place in garden and centers on a title character, Orchid. She goes on a journey of self-discovery searching for true happiness and runs into unexpected friends along the way. The show runs until January 13.

This timeless classic and perennial childhood favorite closes on Sunday, January 6 so if you want tickets, sign up fast. It tells the story of an unconventional and completely loveable nanny that teaches children about life and how to have fun. This star-studded, limited release political thriller features a former CIA informant turned talk show host who is hired by a corporate whistle blower to investigate harm done to a small South American village. The film stars Andy Garcia, Forrest Whitaker and Eva Longoria. It’s perfect for lovers of political dramas or just lover of the film festival circuit films. The film has already taken home the Best Director prize at the Boston Film Festival. It opens January 4.

Texas Chainsaw 3D – Wide release

The slasher film, based off a real life tragedy, is back, this time in 3D. The original film dates back to 1974 and introduced iconic character, Leatherface. Now this incarnation resurrects chainsaw-wielding stalker to bring sex-crazed teens to their ultimate demise. The film features a cast of unknowns with the exception of singer, Trey Songz. If you’re looking to find an excuse to get your date to cozy up to you, this is the film for you.

TV:

Once Upon A TimeOnce Upon A Time returns with a new episode on Sunday, January 6 at 8 p.m. on ABC. This episode entitled "The Cricket Game" comes on the heels of Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Emma’s (Jennifer Morrison) return from Fairytale Land and the Cora and Hook's entrance of into Storybrooke. If you’re behind on episodes, ABC is having a Once Upon A Time marathon beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 5.
