What's new in Santa Fe: 2013 Restaurant and culinary news

There is always something new when it comes to the culinary scene in Santa Fe. Sometimes you'll find some pleasant surprises. The Santa Fe Convention and Visitors Bureau sent along this culinary news:

Bouche Bistro is a much-anticipated new restaurant, owned by super chef Charles Dale and scheduled to open this month. It will be a cozy, traditional Parisian bistro, bringing a bit of France to Santa Fe with traditional dishes like duck confit.

Chef Dale was born in France to American parents. He owned the celebrated restaurant Renaissance in Aspen, Colorado, winning almost every culinary award imaginable. He also owned Rustique Bistro and is an author and cookbook contributor.

He has been a Santa Fean since 2008, when he opened Terra restaurant at Encantado Resort. Bouche Bistro is located in the building at 451 West Alameda Street that was formerly the home of Aqua Santa restaurant. Its owner and chef, Brian Knox, has moved on and is working on opening a new burger spot.

Geronimo, one of Santa Fe’s favorite restaurants, was named to Diners Choice Awards for Top 100 Best Restaurants in the United States. Sponsored by Open Table, the online restaurant reservation service, the top 100 restaurants were chosen by more than 5 million reviews from verified diners. The restaurants chosen do everything right, from cocktails to dessert to earn the top ranking. Geronimo is an iconic restaurant in a historic adobe building on Canyon Road. Executive Chef and part owner Eric DiStefano is also an owner of Coyote Café in Santa Fe.

Garduño’s, a longtime favorite New Mexico restaurant featuring regional-style food, has come roaring back to life under new ownership and plans to open in The Lodge at Santa Fe this spring. Garduño’s has a forty-year history in the state, but ran into financial problems a few years ago. The new owners have revitalized the brand in colorful restaurants that are already open in Albuquerque and Las Cruces.

Istalif Cuisine brings Persian food to Santa Fe, rounding out a host of other international choices. The restaurant is located in the Plaza Mercado near the Plaza, the heart of the city. The menu includes a variety of kebabs and vegetable specialties as well as other traditional Middle Eastern dishes.
