In an effort to better hone in on more localized news and Twitterish-happenings in the Washington DC metro area, I'm launching this "What's Hot In #WashDC" piece as a regular feature. Depending on how much info I can glean from Twitter, I may consider posting weekly. Let's see how it goes.
For now, and without further ado, let's dive in, shall we?
A quick scour of local tweets geo-focused in the #WashDC area have resulted in some good tweetable nuggets worth sharing. They are as follows:
We're kicking things off with American Univerity's (AU) #STANDwithAU conversation and outreach initiative. Thanking Public Communication and theatre performance double major at @AmericanU, Alexandra Johnson (@Alexjohnson3), for making us aware of AU's newly-published YouTube video which spotlight's the educational institution's stance on anti-bullying, acts of violence and much more. To learn more about AU's PSA, please watch their video or visit http://www.american.edu/standwithau, a landing page listing "campus resources … of education and prevention designed to enhance the safety and civility of our university community."

Are you interested in #OpenGov and the #OpenDataAct? Hudson Hollister (@hudsonhollister), Executive Director of the Data Transparency Coalition, "twextplains" how #DATAAct sponsors, implementers & supporters can make the historic #OpenData law a success via his organization's new YouTube video, "How can the DATA Act deliver real spending transparency?" which was taken from the Data Transparancy Summit.
BTW, if you're interested in a summer internship with @DataCoalition, the organization has an internship position open for the tech policy and data standards-obsessed :) It pays $10 per hour which @hudsonhollister admits "is not handsome compensation but which we hope can help make the internship workable." Tweet him for more info.
Oh and for those who need an extra @hudsonhollister fix, check out the pic tweeted by #mccourtschool @Georgetown public policy student, Anjelika Deogirikar (@anjelikadeo) of @hudsonhollister speaking on #DATAAct at @OpenGovHub.

Washington DC-based National Association of Hispanic Journalists (@NAHJ) is about 100 followers away from 10K! If you're interested in topics relevant to Hispanic/Latino journalists, then you should follow this national association dedicated to the recognition & professional advancement of Hispanics in the news industry. As a total side note, @NAHJ … if you happen to read this, yeah … I followed you today :) I think and hope I now brought you to 99 followers or so needed :)
