Movies

On Stage
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Andrew Houchins is performing at the Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta. Audiences can’t get enough of this fairy-filled romp through the woods! With the comedic stylings of some of ASC’s best clowining actors, this productions is sure to please children of all ages. Last weekend on stage, January 27-29 at the Shakespeare Tavern.
Canadian actress and comedian Caroline Rhea is probably best known as the original host of “The Biggest Loser” and as Hilda Spellman on “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.” She’ll bring her stand-up comedy to the Punchline in Sandy Springs January 26-28.
Phenomenal ventriloquist Jeff Dunham brings his entourage of signature characters including José Jalapeño, the spicy pepper from South of the border. Performance is at Philips Arena on January 28 at 8 p.m.
Comedian Costaki Economopoulos’s humor has been described as smart, pointed, hip, sharp, insightful, socially relevant, and gut-laugh funny. He’ll be bringing his stand-up to Punchline in Sandy Springs on January 29.
Where’s Julie? Award winning play written by local Atlanta playwright Daniel Guyton. The play is under the direction of Eileen M. Fulford and deals with teen pregnancy, abortion, and other societal woes in an off-beat and quirky fashion. Performance is at the Dancing Goat Theatre in John’s Creek. Show runs from January 26 to February 4.
Shows and Festivals
Georgia’s biggest and only indoor motorcycle show, the Great American Motorcycle Show is being hosted by the North Atlanta Trade Center in Norcross. They’ll have a huge selection of new bikes, accessories and apparel. Come meet some of the bike builders, listen to great southern rock and take part in some of the biker activities, including the best-dressed biker kid contest. It’s happening on January 27-29.
The Honda Battle of the Band’s annual invitational showcase of bands from various colleges and universities is on Saturday. This year, their special guest performer is Atlanta’s R&B star Monica. The event begins at 3 p.m. January 28 at the Georgia Dome.
Atlanta WinterBeer Fest is here with over 100 beers, tasty food options and live music on 4 stages. The event takes place inside and must be 21 and over to attend. The Fest begins at 3 p.m. January 28 at The Masquerade.
Music
Mr. Runnicles and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra take on Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection”, with soprano Nicole Cabell and mezzo-soprano Kelley O’Conner. Performance is at 8 p.m. January 28 at the Atlanta Symphony Hall.
“The Creation of the World” explores the intersection between science and art, beginning with a scripted conversation between two distinguished master teachers, David Lynn and Dwight Andrews. The second half of the program will be performed by the Vega String Quartet, pianist William Ransom and a cast of Emory faculty and guest artists. The event takes place at 4 p.m. January 29 at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts on the Emory campus.
Atlanta Chamber Players’ Chamber Music in Sacred Spaces series continues featuring works by Beethoven, Mozart and the lively music of French jazz pianist and composer Claude Bolling. The Performance begins at 3 p.m., January 29 at Ahavath Achim Synagogue in Atlanta.
“Where’s the Band?” tour features solo sets from Ace Enders of the Early November, Anthony Raneri of Bayside, Chris Conley of Saves the Day, Evan Weiss of Into it. Over it. and Matt Pryor of the Get Up Kids. The performance starts at 6:30 p.m. January 29 at The Masquerade.
