The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center

The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center in Virginia Beach is always a perfect place to explore whatever the weather brings. Virginia Beach residents get $5 discounts for admission and those with Aquarium memberships receive free admission to the Aquarium for one year, discounts, and more. Watch fantastic films in the 3D IMAX theater, see the sea otters play, the seals and sharks swim, and check out hundreds of amazing animal exhibits in the museum. For adventurers age 4-6, the Aquarium hosts Discovery Days on select Thursdays from 2-3:15. A fun place for the whole family is The Mariners' Museum in Newport News. The Mariners' Museum is one of the largest maritime museums in North America. Explore over 60,000 square feet of gallery space with rare figureheads, handcrafted ship models, Civil War iron-clad USS Monitor, artifacts, paintings, and much more.
Exhibitions include art, photography, and a vast variety of ships and boats, ranging from Civil war iron-clads to small sea crafts. The museum features new exhibitions frequently, the most recent, "Always Good Ships, 125 Years of Shipbuilding" - A Tribute to 125 Years of Newport News Shipbuilding.

Nauticus

Another fun weekend destination is the Nauticus at Waterside in Norfolk. The museum is currently featuring a new exhibit, "Guns, Sweat & Gears: Anatomy of a Battleship", which allows visitors to relive the past through the devices, tools, and equipment from the Battleship Wisconsin. The museum frequently has new, exciting events and programs, as well as permanent exhibits and tours. Nauticus members will get free admission for a year, as well as other great benefits. Touch exotic sea creatures, including starfish, hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, and urchins in the Tidal pool Touch Tank. Step onto a submersible, touch a tornado, and learn about lightning.
