Time for our occasional look through the basket of upcoming DVD announcements and a preview of some interesting upcoming releases and when they'll be in the stores. (We'll do this about every couple of weeks, so if you want to get first word about some interesting upcoming releases, please subscribe to this column using the button above.):
June 30: "Parker Lewis Can't Lose: The Complete First Season" on Shout Factory. The '90s series comes to DVD for the first time in this four-disc set that contains 26 episodes, a booklet with introduction written by Clyde Phillips, plus the bonus feature “A Look Back At Parker Lewis Can’t Lose With The Cast And Creators” and audio commentaries.
July 7: "The Peanuts: 1960's Collection" from Warner Home Video. Featuring "A Charlie Brown Christmas,"
"Charlie Brown's All-Stars," "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," "You're In Love, Charlie Brown," "He's Your Dog, Charlie Brown" and "It Was A Short Summer, Charlie Brown." The last two are new to DVD.
July 14: "Peyton Place: Part Two" on Shout Factory. The five-disc set features 33 episodes that continue the dramatic saga presented in the Part One box set. Seen on the show in these episodes were Dorothy Malone, who won an Oscar for "Written On The Wind," Ed Nelson, Barbara Parkins, Warner Anderson, Tim O’Connor and a young Mia Farrow and Ryan o’Neal. Among the guest actors is a pre-Monkees Micky Dolenz playing a punk seaman.
July 21: "Jon and Kate Plus Ei8ht: Season Four, Volume Two- The Big Move" from Genius Products. 17 episodes on two discs.
Aug. 25: "NCIS: The Complete Sixth Season" from CBS. Six discs. Special features include behind-the-scenes documentaries.
Sept. 22: "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Complete Second Season" on Warner Home Video DVD and Blu-ray. Six discs.
Sept. 29: And the best for last, a perennial TV family favorite. "'The Wizard of Oz' 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition" from Warner Home Video on (first time) Blu-ray and DVD. (Wait, didn't they just put out an Oz DVD set?) Anyway, this one will be five discs for the standard DVD and four for the Blu-ray. Four hours of previously unavailable content, including a documentary on director Victor Fleming and the TV special, "The Dreamer of Oz" with John Ritter. The Blu-ray version also will include the six hour TV series "MGM: When the Lion Roared."
