With Putin rattling his saber and Obama doing what all good Democratic presidents do, see Jimmy Carter, shouldn't this fall out in our favor in the eyes of the rest of the world? Isn't that what we're all about now.
Courting world opinion is the newest trend in American politics. Somehow, the greatest country in the world has been reduced to begging for approval from third world nations like France and Spain. Countries that would no longer exist if not for the might and protection of America. Leading from behind is seen as the apex of enlightenment.
Why don't we just worry about ourselves and let Europe, and the rest of the world, take care of themselves for a change? Imperialist America. America the bully. Let's slash our defense budget, stop defending countries that turn their noses up at us at every opportunity. To paraphrase Colonel Jessup in "A Few Good Men", why should we have to explain ourselves to people that sleep under the very blanket of protection that we provide, and then question the manner in which we provide it.
Let Putin grab as much as he can. Let Europe fall. Let's let them all remember why they are free to pass judgement on us every chance they get. Let them come begging to us for help. Let them fall. We'll be just fine. We don't need the world, the world needs us. Sometimes they just need a little reminder of how much.
Why don't we close all of our military bases around the world? Why don't we bring all of our soldiers home? Instead of letting the tail wag the dog, let's cut off the tail, see how it does on its own.
"It's A Wonderful Life" is one of the greatest movies ever made. We get to see what the world would be like in the absence of one good man. What would the world be like in the absence of one good nation? Why don't we let them find out?
