As most people know by now the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles will be collecting the local county vehicle taxes starting this year. However what most people may not know is that you will pay your vehicle tax twice this year. Yes, that is right twice this year.
When I received my tax notice in the mail today, I called the Randolph County Tax Department. I asked when my taxes were due since I knew my tags were not expiring until October of this year. The woman that assisted me over the telephone looked up my information and told me that it was due by the end of February of this year to avoid any penalty and interest. She went on to say that when I renewed my license plate I would pay again in October for my taxes from the time of October 2013 through October 2014.
So, get ready, you will fork over twice this year for your vehicle taxes in order for the rotation to fall correctly after that. I wonder how people will handle two or three vehicles that will have expired tags in the same month. The Randolph County Tax Department has an informative brochure on their website.
