Leonardo DiCaprio ended 2012 on a high note thanks to his role as Calvin J. Candie in the action western drama "Django Unchained." This movie, written by Quentin Tarantino, earned DiCaprio several prestigious nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture Drama and a Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor. Although DiCaprio has been acting ever since he was a small child, it was his role as Jack Dawson in the blockbuster hit "Titanic" that made Hollywood take notice. DiCaprio's talent is undeniable, and for that reason, fans and movie critics throughout the globe are always looking forward to his next movie role.
Leonardo DiCaprio has two major films coming out in 2013. First is "The Wolf of Wall Street," an intense crime drama based on the memoir of Jordan Belfort. DiCaprio plays Jordan Belfort in this movie, who is an author and a motivational speaker, who once worked as a stockbroker and was convicted of multiple stock-related crimes. The film takes place on the streets of New York and in parts of New Jersey, and it began production in late 2012. The movie stars other talented Hollywood actors and directors, including Matthew McConaughey ("Magic Mike;" "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days"), Kyle Chandler ("Argo;" "Super 8"), Jonah Hill ("21 Jump Street;" "Moneyball"), Joanna Lumley ("Ella Enchanted;" "Corpse Bride") and Rob Reiner ("Rumor Has It;" "The Bucket List"). The director of this movie is Martin Scorsese and this will be the fifth time that Scorsese and DiCaprio collaborated on a film.
According to Thema Schoonmaker, Martin Scorsese's longtime editor, this film will be shot digitally and will be available in 2D. A great deal of the filming has already taken place inside of an abandoned New Jersey building. This building was transformed into a corporate workplace in order to depict the environment that Belfort worked in during the 1990s. In this movie, Belfort is accused of stock market manipulation because of his role in a securities fraud and money laundering scheme. The movie is currently in postproduction and it is set to be released in September 2013.
The second movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio that is set for release in 2013 is "The Great Gatsby." This film is a romantic drama that is based on a 1925 novel that was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It is about the life of a millionaire named Jay Gatsby, played by DiCaprio, and his neighbor Nick, played by Tobey Maguire ("Spider-Man;" "The Cider House Rules"). The story takes place during "The Roaring 20s," which was shortly after World War I. This was a time of great prosperity in the United States, but many millionaires during that time would eventually lose their fortunes due to engaging in shady business practices. DiCaprio's character has shady business connections in this film and Nick, who is the narrator, captures the essence of Gatsby and the essence of this entire era in this great film.
The film was shot in Australia and was originally scheduled to be released in December 2012. However, Warner Bros. decided to put off the release of this film. The company felt that releasing it during the holidays would not be a good idea, particularly because the movie "Django Unchained" was already set to be released. It's a new release date is May 10, 2013. The film will also run at the Cannes Film Festival from May 15, 2013 to May 26, 2013. Other stars of this film include Carey Mulligan ("Shame;" "An Education"), Joel Edgerton ("The Odd Life of Timothy Green;" "Zero Dark Thirty"), Isla Fisher ("Wedding Crashers;" "Confessions of a Shopaholic") and Jason Clarke ("Lawless;" "Texas Killing Fields").
Whether DiCaprio has additional films that he's either currently working on is unknown. These are the two films that are definitely set to be released in 2013, and there are likely many more films to come. This talented actor has been acting his entire life and so far, Leo DiCaprio has had an amazing career. And just 38 years old, he is still fairly young, so movie critics and fans have many years of his work to look forward to. DiCaprio has also recently started producing films. Since 2004, DiCaprio has produced a total of eight films, including "The 11th Hour," "The Aviator," "Orphan" and "The Ides of March." According to DiCaprio, producing films is just as enjoyable to him as acting and he had absolutely no plans of slowing down.
