What lovers want for Valentine’s Day

Life is a box of…mixed nuts. Yea, you thought I was going to say chocolates, didn’t you? Sure, chocolates are great, and many a lover would love a box of them, or might even like to paint their lover in chocolate and satisfy their sweet tooth, but since everyone is different, (that box of mixed nuts I mentioned), I thought it might be fun to see what people prefer for Valentine’s Day as a gift.

The answers ranged from the romantic to the practical to some pretty kinky **uckery! The pleasantly polled were given a choice of flowers, chocolates, lingerie, or jewelry. It didn’t take long before the conversation swerved off the beaten path and headed down the “garden path”.

Four ladies and one gentleman all agreed on jewelry because as one lady put it, “It can be sold later, just in case.” Practical? Yes. But not very romantic to plan for the possible ending of a relationship now is it? Aren’t there any romantics left in the world?

To my relief, I found that there, indeed, are romantics who prefer the ‘thought that counts’ over the ‘cash that flows’. Prominent fashion designer, Skip Pas of West Coast Leather, shared his preference – “Flowers, baby girl!” he said.

Going farther into literary romance, one dear friend said she didn’t want any of the listed choices but would rather have “a romantic dinner (with my husband) and night away from the kids.” Nothing like being childless for a night to bring the romance back.

Another wonderful lady, Victoria, continued the romantic theme but helped veer us off the path a little (here we go) by saying she would rather have the lingerie. “Why do I favorite lingerie? Since we are "baring our souls" here.... I am an attractive, older woman, who wishes to know that I am still sexually alluring to my husband. I already have more jewelry than I can wear in a lifetime. I have also found that straight men are not very good at choosing well designed jewelry for women. Therefore, I have always preferred to buy my own jewelry! By this method, I have gotten just what I wanted.”

As we had now opened Pandora’s box and found it filled with G-strings and teddies, the men perked up. One of my favorite college professors said “I could use some new lingerie!” Incorrigible, this one, and obviously harboring a little secret fetish!

Two other testosterone filled bodies added that lingerie is more a gift for men than women. I beg to disagree as most women who wear lingerie do so to feel sexier, to feel desirable. This is an invaluable gift to any woman. Yes, it does have that wonderful side-effect of making these same women get all cocky and go after their lover’s..uh…well…cocky? Sometimes side-effects are beneficial to a relationship, yes?

There are also those women are who pretty darn low-maintenance like my friend, Rene. “I prefer books. Buy me a book, fix me home-made spaghetti and take me for a walk and I am a happy Valentine's Day girl.”

You just have to know your mate. A couple of other off the record answers to this poll included Tequila body shots and naked Twister; a hot tub threesome; hot oil body massages; and way down the Garden Path…a strap-on! Obviously the people I know have some secrets to spill.

Regardless of what you decide to give your lover for this Valentine’s Day, make sure that whatever it is, it reflects how you feel about that special someone. Let them know you love them, desire them, and will do so for the other 364 days of the year.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all my beautiful, sexy, and awesome readers. Please enjoy more Valentine's Day fun from friend and fellow writer, Carla Ives, on her blog, Old Busted Hotness and read up on Valentine's Day, (Old Fart) Special Edition!
