Everyone has their own description of what they think being in love feels like but truth be told being in love and loving someone is so much more than a feeling. The revelation about being in love and loving is it has more to do with what you are willing to experience with someone as opposed to being about your feelings toward them.
Butterflies in your stomach may not necessarily mean love. It's more associated with puppy love and infatuation. You can literally feel like you despise someone you love (hence why older couples tend to fight more often) but love is so much more than a feeling that the only way to describe it is to compare it to God's love.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8New International Version (NIV)
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
These are the fundamental truths about love which is totally out of line with how society tends to love in modern day. I remember hearing someone recently tell me that love has conditions after I explained to them that I believe in unconditional love and I wondered what she meant by that.
Today people are so misguided when it comes to real love. They do believe that love has conditions. They are not aware that its because of that mentality that there is so much divorce, disintegration of families, and fleeting friendships. What needs to be taught is how love is unconditional and how much God's love is the guide to how we should love each other.
So, what are your ideas about love? Do you love with conditions? Are your relationships lasting or do they disintegrate quickly? Its o.k. not to love everyone but when you do choose to love someone just remember that love is much more than just a feeling.
