If you have been running for a long time then you probably have your favorite shoe that works best for you. What makes for a great running shoe? There are a myriad of brands and each brand has numerous types of shoes.
Walk into any shoe store and you will be quickly overwhelmed with the vast number of selections available to you.
If you are new to running or just getting started its best to stop into a local specialty running store. The people who work there are almost always runners and have experience in the types of shoes and can advise you on what shoe s best for your feet. Everyone’s feet are different and we all run in different ways. Some people have high arches and some run flat footed, some are pronators and others supinators.
Recently there has also been lots of promotion on so called “minimalist” types of shoes which border on running barefoot. The jury is still out on those shoes and while many runners swear by them others have had some bad experiences with injuries as a result.
In our area we are fortunate to have many specialty running stores to help you. Among them are:
Miles Ahead Sports, Route35 in Wall Township.
McLoones Running Store, The Grove in Shrewsbury
Road Runner Sports, Route 35 in Shrewsbury
Sneaker Factory, Pier Village in Long Branch and Millburn
Runner’s High, Freehold and Metuchen
South Jersey Running and Triathlon Co, Stafford, Township
Princeton Running Company, Princeton, N.J.
Stop in any of these specialty stores and the staff are always friendly and in addition to advising you on a new pair of shoes can give you some pointers and fill you in on what is going on in the local running community.
