What is 'vanilla sex' and why is online porn making it go away?

Vanilla sex is a slang term for conventional, traditional sexual intercourse. Experts say vanilla sex is not measuring up to the modern online porn, making the expectations from the conventional style less appealing and possibly intimidating to amorous couples.

Generally, online porn features barbie-doll females and high performing males. They are usually actors and actresses not only well aware of being filmed, but also are 'putting on the show' for viewers.

The average couple watching online porn may compare their appearances and performances to the porn actors, leaving them feeling intimidated and humiliated.

Couples may feel they are not 'as good' or be afraid they won't be able to perform as well as the online porn couples.

Additionally, the online porn that was viewed may influence an assumed belief that the partner may enjoy a sexual act they witnessed, when in fact it may be uncomfortable for that partner.

It is believed more young couples are watching porn online. These impressionable young people may be misguided into thinking that the online porn is the status quo or normal. They can't compete with what they see online and give up the natural exploration of learning healthy sexual behaviors with their romantic interest.

This erroneous perception could be damaging relationships' conventional sexual behaviors. It is strongly suggested that romantically-involved couples talk and communicate their wants and desires to each other and shouldn't rely on online porn for intimate guidance.
