What is the origin of Christmas? Conclusion

The birth and the birth place of our Lord and Savior is an historical fact and we can read the entire story in Luke 2:1-39 and Mathew 1:18-Matt. 2:1-23.  What we don’t find is the Christmas story as we know it today! No place in the bible does it tell us when Jesus Christ was born. The disciples were not told to celebrate His birth but they were told how to celebrate or observe His death which is the Passover.  His resurrection was three days later!  Don’t you think that if it was important to God that we know and celebrate His birth that He would have made it very clear and also a commandment?

These were all covered in the previous articles.

“The date and time of year of Christmas, the food and drink traditions and the very celebration itself are of pagan origin, and have nothing to do with either the birth of Jesus or other Biblical traditions. The Christmas celebration as a festival of light has obvious pagan roots, and the Christmas tree have certainly no foundation in the Bible whatsoever. The gift-giving tradition was very prominent in the pagan Saturnalia, and can hardly be seen as of Christian origin.”

“The truth is that all of the customs of Christmas pre-date the birth of Jesus Christ, and a study of this would reveal that Christmas in our day is a collection of traditions and practices taken from many cultures and nations.”

Anyone can go to the Library and find any and all of this information if they truly want to.  This is not a secret. One may find that not all history books say exactly the same things but the one thing they all agree on is that Christmas and its traditions all come from Paganism!

The Encyclopedia Americana says: "The holly, the mistletoe, the Yule log . . . are relics of pre-Christian times."

Answers to Questions, a book compiled by Frederick J. Haskins, can be found in public libraries. It says: "The use of Christmas wreaths is believed by authorities to be traceable to the pagan customs of decorating buildings and places of worship at the feast which took place at the same time as Christmas. The Christmas tree is from Egypt, and its origin dates from a period long anterior to the Christian Era."

Most people love to give. And giving people what they need is a good and Godly way to show love for others.  Man’s way and system of giving is about giving in a way that makes a profit for himself.  It is about seeking a profit and gifts in return and a pride in showing others what they have done or can do.  It is really a way of getting!  Look at the advertisements long before Halloween and Thanksgiving!  Will it get to the place that retailers will start encouraging people to purchase Christmas gifts right after the new year begins?

What does God say about all of this?

  • Jeremiah 7:18: “The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.”
  • Jeremiah 19:13:  “And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.”

What people do with knowledge is up to them.
