Saturday Night Live recently promoted Miley Cyrus as musical guest and host for tonight's episode with a video showing Miley and SNL mainstay Taran Killam making fun of Miley’s “recent controversies” including her infamous tongue sticking out at almost every video and picture that we’ve seen of her since the former Hannah Montana star shed her wholesome image.
In the promo, Miley joked that she uses her tongue to smell.
Well, that would have been funny if we didn’t hear what Miley had to say in the rest of her spiels.
In the video, Miley and Taran mocked Miley’s much talked about VMA performance, referring to her twerking, raunchy outfit and worst of all - according to Miley - “and don’t forget about the children”.

It doesn’t take a few minutes for a first time Googler to learn that it’s not only Miley Cyrus wagging her tongue these days.
Famous people, regular folks, parents and singles, you name it. Almost everyone has a piece to say about the vocal singer.

Many of Miley’s fans and supporters have brushed off the singer’s recent behavior as nothing to be concerned about because they claim to believe, based on their online posts, that Miley Cyrus is her own woman, that the singer is not inside the cloak of the wholesome Hannah Montana anymore, that she is now grown and that she can be whoever she wants to be.
We get that.
But Miley and her fans should also remember that Miley is a public figure and she has, if she cares at all about her accountability, the huge responsibility to not influence and lead the younger generation who look up to her in the wrong direction.

Miley’s once “inspiration" for her “Wrecking Ball’ music video - in which Miley appeared naked - and her now social media nemesis, 80’s outspoken Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, has a point.
A few days ago, Sinead wrote to Miley “ … it is absolutely NOT in ANY way an empowerment of yourself or any other young women, for you to send across the message that you are to be valued (even by you) more for your sexual appeal than your obvious talent."
Apparently, Miley did not appreciate Sinead’s sound advise by mocking the latter on Twitter, even pulling in currently troubled Disney star Amanda Bynes in the ugly tug-of-war and exposing Sinead's past controversies. Sinead and Miley now have an ongoing feud made public on their social media posts.
Apart from that, Miley had been rumored to be pregnant with rapper Juicy J’s child sparked by her announcement at the recent BET Hip Hop Awards. She later dispelled the rumor.
So why do we care?
Most of us really don’t.
With all the issues that our generation now faces from finances to job stabilities to health care to parenthood to mid-life crises, we generally do not have time to bother ourselves with the lives of seemingly misguided Hollywood stars.
But we can’t ignore the impact that they have on the younger generation in which our children or future children belong to.
Miley Cyrus is a talented singer who we once considered - yes when she was still Hannah Montana and a couple of years after that - to be a great role model for the youth.
Looking at and listening to her while she made fun of herself during the SNL promo video, the talented girl still displayed a lot of the lovable traits that we grew to appreciate about her but then she seemed to counter that “little sliver of hope” with her insensitivity.
Sure, her VMA performance was a seeming display of insensitivity by disregarding the impression that her actions would imprint on her young viewers but we thought she already learned from that.
Well, perhaps not.
SNL and Miley Cyrus made fun of “the children", probably referring to the issue raised by people who complained about her raunchy VMA performance televised on national TV and how it impacted the young audience.
That is not a laughing matter at all and should have been left out of the script.
We understand, from all the transitions that our generation has already gone through, that we all have to grow up one day and Miley is not an exception but that does not mean we have to shed our values along with our childhood.
Growing up entails responsibility no matter what we choose to be.
