What is fitness? Generally it's considered the healthy condition that allows people to perform the tasks they enjoy and is a result of exercise and nutrition.
Turns out that though many adults flounder to actually define it, American teenagers are quite savvy about fitness: a Teens Health Perceptions Study from the Scarborough Kids Internet Panel was just released revealing that teens are getting the "live healthy" message:
The vast majority of teens give themselves good health grades and say nutrition and exercise are the two pillars of a healthy lifestyle.
- 67% of teens give themselves a B- or higher.
- 92% say a healthy lifestyle is important.
- Overall, boys give themselves a better healthy lifestyle grade than do girls, and 13-15 year olds give themselves a better grade than 16-17 year olds.
- The teens say there is a positive correlation between grade and importance—as the importance of healthy lifestyle increases, so do grades.
- 63% say when they have health/nutrition questions they go to their parents; 50% use the Internet
