“And now this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent,” (John 17:3). Jesus clearly tells us that eternal life is Christ. The only way to get eternal life is to know God, who sent Jesus Christ. God loves you and wants you to have a personal relationship with Him. We all are here on this earth for a purpose - the only way to find ultimate fulfillment is by establishing a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Why did God create me?
First, you must understand that you were created by a loving God, who loves you. He knew you before you were born. He is your true Father in heaven. God is a Spirit, yet a person; Creator, who created you from head to toe, to be in fellowship and relationship with Him.
How do I begin to have a personal relationship with God?
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life,” (John 3:16). In other words, God loves you so much that He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for you. Jesus Christ, the Son of God died for your sins.
What does that mean?
The sins you committed in this life disconnected you from God and deserve punishment. But Jesus loved you so much that He took the punishment for you on the cross. He made you free and the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
So now what? What must I do to get eternal life and stay connected to God?
Jesus prepared a way for you to be reconnected to God. You must trust God and become a part of His Plan of Salvation. You must “confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation,” (Romans 10:9-10).
How am I cleansed from my sins?
You must admit your sin and repent - turn away from sin, and then Christ’s love comes to live inside of you by the Holy Spirit. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness,” (1 John 1:9).
What does the Holy Spirit do inside of me?
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together,” (Romans 8:16-17). The Bible says the Holy Spirit also is a teacher, counselor, comforter, advocate, and helper who guides you to all truth (John 14:26).
Why should I get saved? If I decide not to believe what happens?
Believers become the righteousness of God in Christ. Those who believe have salvation, and internal and external benefits such as becoming heirs of God, the peace of God, (Romans 5:1), love of God, protection, healing, God’s favor, the grace and mercy of God. Most of all, after a believer dies, he spends eternity with God in heaven. For those who have not confessed their sin, turned away from it, repented, asked God for forgiveness of their sins, or believed that God has raised Jesus from the dead, they are not considered children of God, but children who are lost without Christ’s righteousness. God is not considered their Father, but He is now their Judge. Therefore, an unbeliever’s father is the devil, who is the god of this world. Those who do not become believers live hopeless lives, without purpose or vision.
Where will you spend eternity? The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God (2 Corinthians 4:4). God has prepared a place for unbelievers as well. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other…” (Matthew 6:24). Jesus said, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance,” (Luke 5:32). It is not God’s will that any shall perish, but that all come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Those who choose repentance and believe on Christ, spend eternity with God in heaven. “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death," (Revelation 21:8).
God gives us a choice - to choose whom we are going to serve. “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” (Joshua 24:15).
