The term "common baldness" often refers to the most common hair loss, that is male-pattern baldness or also known as androgenic alopecia. Male-pattern baldness can occur in a young man or an aging man and often is pretty predictable. Typically the hair begins to recede at the temple, and then the hair at the top of the head thins out. After time goes on the top of the head may become completely bald leaving hair only in the back and along the sides.
Common baldness is determined by genetics, hormones, and age. Your diet also plays an important role in your hair loss. You need to eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water to maintain the best hair and skin you possibly can. A way that you can determine what your genetics are is to look at your mother's father rather than your own. It is due to a sex-linked characteristic that is passed from parent to child that determines each mans personal genetics that he has.
Men deal with common baldness in differnt ways, some trying differnt hairstyles to camouflage the balding look, while others shave all their hair off completely. Whichever a man chooses to deal with the balding process there are alternatives that he can turn to if it bothers him. These days with so many treatments available it may be a daunting task that he chooses to avoid and an expensive on at that. Here are a look at a few....
Prescription Drugs - Minoxidil (Rogaine) and Finasteride (Propecia) are the most common prescription drug treatments for balding. The first one, Minoxidil (Rogaine) is a solution that is applied directly to the scalp to help stimulate the hair follicles. It is used on balding men or men that just want to slow the process down. The second one, Finasteride (Propecia) is a pill. This pill inhibits the production of DHT and slows the process of balding down. It is shown to be more effective then the Minoxidil.
Hair transplants - Hair transplants are a surgical procedure that actually takes hair from areas where hair is continuing to grow and placed in areas that are bald. This is a permanent solution for hair loss that is quit expensive and this procedure usually requires multiple sessions.
Prosthetic hair replacement - Prosthetic hair replacement are toupees and hairpieces. Many of us havea bad vision of what a toupee looks like, but over the past years a much better selection has been available to men that wish to acquire one.
Common baldness is so common in adult males and that is why it is called "common." It is known that male baldness affects well over one-half of the adult male population. So no wonder where it got it's name!
