Now that Amy Grant has granted an interview with a gay magazine, the Michigan weekly Pride Source, one has to wonder about the popular Christian singer’s position on gay marriage. She doesn’t have a problem with the gay contingent in her audience, and told to publication, “I’ve always had a big gay following.” However, when pressed on the subject of gay marriage, she responded, “I never talk about anything like that.”
This interview may leave you with the impression Grant is still undecided, however. When asked, “This isn’t a cut-and-dry issue for you, then?” Grant replied, “Well, nothing is cut-and-dry.”
Her response could mean she’s truly on the fence when it comes to gay marriage. Then again, it might mean she doesn’t want to offend her Christian audience, which was – after all – the one that propelled her into stardom. She may not want to offend her large gay audience, either. Both Grant’s gay and Christian audiences are probably upset at her for not taking a stand either way. But it’s probably the wise route at this point because either way she goes she’s likely to lose a big chunk of fans.
