I have found that a thorough study of the Book of Revelation, the very last book of the Bible, can not only strengthen your faith in Christ, but this is the only book in the Bible that promises a blessing, if you read it. Imagine that! Revelation 1:3 reads, “Blessed is he who reads and hears the words of this prophecy, and keeps those things which are written in it; for the time is near” (NKJV). When I first became a Christian and began reading God’s Word, I must admit that the Book of Revelation used to be intimidating to me but after studying the Bible for some two decades now, I have come to enjoy this “bookend” of the Bible and to experience the blessing of Revelation Chapter 1 and Verse 3!
So, I have decided to share with you how I learned to appreciate and understand this “mysterious” book of the Bible and ask you to journey with me, once again, through the Scriptures to learn more about Jesus Christ. For this book of the Bible specifically addresses many key insights into the person of Christ and the end times as well. In fact, most Bible scholars agree that the Book of Revelation can be studied from four fundamental perspectives: Amillennialism, Postmillennialism, Historical Premillennialism, and Dispensational Premillennialism. Indeed, these terms are nearly as difficult to pronounce as they are to understand but I will attempt to do so over my next four articles focusing on each concept individually and in the order stated above.
Now, along the way, I will glean the help of bestselling and award-winning author, Bible scholar, and professor of leadership at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Dr. Timothy Paul Jones, who has written more than a dozen books on Religion and Eschatology (the study of the end times) and specifically, “Four Views of the End Times,” published by Bristol Works, Inc., a division of Rose Publishing. According to Dr. Jones (2010), “in every generation since sin entered into the world, God’s people seem to have wondered, ‘When and how will God make things right in the world?’” The answer could not be better found in any other source than right in this wonderful, spiritual gem of the Bible called the Book of Revelation!
For that reason and more, stay tuned as the next stop on our journey through the four views of the Book of Revelation will be Amillennialism…See you then!
