What have you done this summer to improve your health? For some people a healthy lifestyle may come natural and for some it may never happen at all. Most women fall somewhere in between thinking about exercise and the action stage. Where do you stand? If you are considering a lifestyle change then this article is for you.
Let's first examine your motivation. Are you looking to get into a bikini? Do you have a health concern? Are you looking to train for an event? Once you have determined why you want to change you can then create a lifestyle plan which is the discipline that you can tolerate for the rest of your life. Sounds challenging, but it is the truth.
For best results you have to be serious and committed to yourself. Most women spend countless hours taking care of everyone else, but cannot make time for themselves. The mindset must change to correct this scenario. If you took some time to take care of yourself you will have more energy so that you can continue to be a great caregiver, employee, mother, wife etc.
How do you assess your readiness to change? The simplest way is to evaluate what benefits may be obtained if improved body image is achieved? Chances are you will feel better about yourself and you will see your confidence level exceed to an all time high. Your energy level will be better than you could've imagined. Maybe you can see yourself keeping up with your kids activities. Or maybe you'll just enjoy the compliments.
The next step, 'lights, camera, action.' Create a vision of the perfect day the night before you start your action plan. For example; if you're not a morning person, fake it. When you get ready for bed set your intention that as soon as that alarm goes off you are going to be motivated to start the day right. Have all your clothes set out the night before. Eat a healthy breakfast for energy. Power up early so the brain doesn't talk you out of it.
Pick your poison. No one said you have to go to the gym, get creative, roll the dice, this is a fun way to keep your workouts fun and exciting. Every night before you go to bed, roll the dice. Each number represents an activity, note it is important to chose exercises that you enjoy, e.g. 1-run, 2- bike, 3- swim, 4-functional training, 5- TRX, 6- exercise video. You will also want to be mentally prepared which is why you will roll the night before instead of the day of.
Stay positive. If you're running and not loving it, think about the person in a wheelchair that just scooted by in the bike lane who will never run. Thank your body for be able to push beyond the new limits you have created.
