Looking to start up a new business in 2013? Not sure where to start? Don't stress, start with selecting the right name for your business. Follow the guideline below to help steer you toward a name that suits your business best.
• Keep it brief. Keep in mind the name you decide on will have to fit on business cards or maybe on a store front window, if it's too long it may not be esthetically pleasing.
• One of a kind. Every year new businesses are formed, according to the latest census (2009) there were 27.5 million businesses in the United States. Choose a name for your business that will help it stand out from from the rest, a name that will grab the attention of potential clients.
• Keep it simple. Giving your business an easy name for others to remember will help spread the awareness of your business by word of mouth.
• Watch your spelling. Funky spellings for business names are trending. Unique names can make you stand out but keep in mind that it may be harder to share the spelling by word of mouth, thus, making the online search for your business harder.
Take your time selecting a business name as it will be part of the business brand. Be sure you are comfortable with the name you select as having to change it can be expensive and
hurt your business brand. Check your research by making sure that the business name you decide on isn't already registered with the state by searching the Division of Corporations.
