What doesn't kill you

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?  This small business owner in Southeastern Michigan can relate to this saying all to well!  And, he seems strong enough to carry the weight of the world after everything he has been through over the last couple of years.  The good news, he is still breathing and he has high hopes for a future filled with blessings!

He has survived an ugly divorce, the loss of his job, bankruptcy, the loss of his home, family turmoil and much, much more.

How have the past few years changed him?  In his words, “The biggest thing is it makes you understand what is most important.  To make sure the kids are ok and being sure to spend time with them.  The bad thing is, it is hard to trust others, you basically have to figure out how to make your own way.  You have to be strong enough to make it on your own because it’s hard to find someone ethical to work for.”

When questioned about where his drive and energy comes from, this hardworking man said, “I have to many responsibilities not to keep moving.”

Even when the odds were against him, it just meant he had to work harder.

He shared, “I don’t get up every day to prove something to myself.  I know I’m capable of making a business successful.  Short-term it amounts to hard work, making sure the bills are paid and everyone is taken care of."

His niche and vision takes him into moving and loading heavy equipment.  He enjoys the challenges of the work, the satisfaction of a job well done and the growth opportunities he is starting to experience.

Today he is working to overcome payroll anxieties.  Taking care of everybody now includes a handful of employees and the well being of their families.  His family has expanded to include his work family.  It is both scary and exciting at the same time!

This Michigander’s story probably sounds familiar to others who’ve found their way through an economic and personal downfall.  He, who remains nameless for the sake of this article, is one of many who has, due to unfavorable circumstances, had to re-invent himself.

One thing is for sure, his best return on investment is to put his time, hard work and whatever money he can on himself.  He is an entrepreneur with a vision who is starting to make things happen!
