…and why it’s okay to apply your lipstick at the table…
Like many a royals fan out there, I’m sure the ladies of Atlanta are curious about what Queen Elizabeth carries in her handbag when she’s out and about in public.
Turns out that the monarch customarily carries not more than ten British pounds, and usually a fiver, for church donation.
Another surprise, per royals biographer Sally Bedell Smith in her book Elizabeth the Queen: The Woman Behind the Throne, is that the queen carries a handy gadget – a portable hook for hanging up her handbag under tables!
But attaching the suction cup for the hook is a bit of a ceremony in itself, as it apparently requires the Queen to activate it by spitting into it – discreetly – and then slapping it under the table. I don’t know about you but I’d give anything to see that!
Other important items in her handbag include a small mirror and lipstick – which she applies at the table (yes, ladies it’s perfectly alright to do so!) – reading glasses, a fountain pen and mints.
Phil Dampier, another royals biographer, who wrote the book The Queen’s Handbag and Other Royal Secrets, the Queen even carries a collection of good luck charms given to her by her children, family photographs and a makeup case given to her by her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
And the handbag of choice is none other than the Launer Royale Handbag, which retails on their website for GBP 1,057.00 ($1,671.48), featuring classic styling in leather, with a wreath-like golden motif and suede lining.
