On March 23 in the evening Christians everywhere will be partaking of unleavened bread and wine which pictures the broken body of Jesus Christ. If not for this event that took place over 2,000 years ago, we would not have a Savior!
God our Father and the One Who was the Word and Who became Jesus Christ knew that eventually man would sin, He also knew that man would need a Savior in order for them to become the spiritual sons of God which was God’s purpose for creating mankind! So they knew from before the foundation of the world that there would be a need for a Savior to save them from their sins!
- “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God” (1Peter 1:18-21) (NKJV).
God knew that once humans were given the opportunity that they would sin! This means that God’s laws and Commandments were already in place before creation! Angels were also created before mankind and when Lucifer decided that he wanted to take over God’s Throne and rebelled against God a third of the angels followed him, they became demons and Lucifer became Satan the Devil! God said that Satan was a liar and a murderer from the beginning. He enticed the first man and woman to sin knowing that he was lying to them and was also a murderer – if they didn’t have a savior to save them from their sins!
- "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44) (NKJV)
Jesus Christ was the God of the Old Testament and worked with men whose faith He tested to see if He could trust them and He used them to proclaim the prophecy of the coming Savior to all mankind! When He brought the twelve sons of Jacob known as the house of Israel out of the land of Egypt by the hand of Moses where they had been slaves of the Egyptians for over 200 years, He instituted the first Passover. Every head of the house took a lamb which they had kept up for four days and killed and ate it on the evening or the beginning of the 14th of Nisan and they were to put the blood on the door posts of their houses so that when the destroyer, or as it has been called, the ‘death angel’ would see it he would pass over their house! Thus it was called the “Passover” and Christ became the Passover Lamb of God. This ceremony looked forward and was a shadow of things to come in the future. Today, instead of killing a lamb, we are under the New Covenant which Christ came to institute.
Jesus Christ, Who was the Word of God, emptied Himself of His divinity that He had with God for all eternity and God through the Holy Spirit planted Him as a sperm in the womb of Mary. He became human flesh and walked this earth to be among humans, to build His church, to proclaim the Gospel of the soon coming Kingdom of God and to die so that we as humans would be forgiven of our sins and then by His resurrection inherit that Kingdom of God for all eternity! We do this through repentance of our sins, being baptized, having hands laid on us to receive the Holy Spirit and by living our lives as He has commanded us to!
Each year we take the Passover symbols to remind us of what Christ did for us for without Him, we have no hope!
- “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”! (John 1:29)
