“And He [Jesus] said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have two tunics apiece.” – Luke 9:3
We began our journey in this new revelation yesterday, and will conclude this three-part message tomorrow. If you have not read part one, I encourage you to do so before continuing on, to ensure that you do not miss all that God has for you.
I cringe when well-meaning people introduce someone to a “less than” god, who is not the real God. These folks need to sit home for a bit, and stare at the wall for a while until they get smacked with the Holy Ghost so they can show off the real God!
My point is that people have real problems. Today’s folks have gut-wrenching, mind-numbing problems. And they need to see the God who is bigger than their problems; the true Father of us all, Who offers hope; where up until now, individuals have had no hope. People today are broke down, and looking for a way out of their situation. They need a jump start! We need to show them the real God, the Way-Maker Who is more than ready and able to make a way out of no way. This is the God we serve! We serve a Mighty God! And this is the God we need to present to the world!
In this verse alone, by Jesus commanding His disciples to “taking nothing,” is a testament of the Mightiness of the Creator of the Universe. Jesus was basically saying “look here brothers, the best of the world that you have, doesn’t even measure up. After all, the very best that you have, which is gold, we use in my Father’s kingdom as pavement! (Revelation 21:21).” My brothers and sisters, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).” Again I declare: What a Mighty God we serve!
If you want God to show Himself strong, if you want to see God’s Glory, and experience the supernatural break through the natural, then take nothing, my family! Come to God with no agenda, no worldly baggage, and without any pre-conceived notions, and lay yourself bare and raw on His altar.
Do you want to see the One who Sees you? Then hearken to the voice of the Lord! The Word of God testifies “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Being strong in yourself will not usher in the presence, the glory of God. Be strong in the Lord, and watch how the Father shows up and shows out on your behalf! The Apostle Paul knew this, as He exclaimed “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me!” (Philippians 4:13).
The Greek word for “take” as used in this verse is airo (pr. ahee-ro), meaning “to lift, to raise, to expiate sin, loose” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines “expiate” as “to put an end to, to make amends for.” The word for “nothing” is meden (pr. may-den), which means “not even one, without delay.”
Do you need God to show Himself strong for you, my brother? Do you need your Father to turn that situation around for you, my sister? Then lift up the Cross of Christ by laying down the ways and things of this world. Loose the Spirit of the Living God, Who will shake you loose of every sin, and every hindering and suffocating force that is keeping you bound. Raise the Savior high, as a banner to signify the victory! Let the One Who made amends for you, come and live inside of you. And do not put off your victory one more second; do not walk in less than God’s best for you for even one more step. “Behold, I [Jesus] stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20).
It is time to stop scraping by, subsisting on cheese and crackers; and come to feast at the King’s banquet table, and never be hungry again. This, my brothers and sisters, is indeed the Mighty God we serve!
Father, thank You for making a way for us, out of no way through Your Son. Help us to lay down the ways of the world, and pick up Jesus. Help us to look up to Your ways, which are higher than our ways; Your ways, which are the best ways (Isaiah 55:9). We cry out you, Most Holy Father, and we turn from the world’s ways and run into Your open arms, where you have healing in Your hands. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we now put on the mind of Christ. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to lay down the world’s ways and pick up God’s ways. Choose to forsake the empty promises of the world for the One True Promise, Who is Jesus. Determine daily to seek God first on every matter, and to be led by His Word and His voice. And continue to fight the good fight of taking nothing; for God, your Everything, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
