What do groundhogs and windshield wipers have in common

What do groundhogs and windshield wipers have in common? Nothing obvious, except that they do happen to share a holiday. In addition to February 2nd being Groundhog Day, it’s also National Change Your Windshield Wipers Day!

According to an article in Science Daily, about 25% of all automobile crashes occur in wet weather. While there are a variety of contributing factors that lead to this percentage, decreased driver visibility certainly plays a big part. Although windshield wipers are, in fact, a primary safety feature on a vehicle, they are too often ignored. The time to change your wiper blades is long before you’re driving down the highway in an ice storm and the blades begin to scrape up your windshield. In fact, most wiper blade manufacturers recommend that the blades should be changed at least every six months.

Here are a few signs that your wipers should be changed:

Decreased visibility.

Chattering or sticking wipers.

Streaking or scratching on the glass.

Visual signs of rubber wear (splits, cracks, or chunking) or arms (bending, warping.)

To help us celebrate National Windshield Wipers Day, Glass Doctor of Lehigh Valley is offering our readers $2.50 off the regular purchase price of windshield wiper blades*. Just print out or mention this article to receive this discount during the entire month of February, 2012. Glass Doctor of Lehigh Valley carries a full line of Trico windshield wiper blades and they’ll even install them for you.

Like it or not, Old Man Winter is making his way back to the Lehigh Valley. Let Glass Doctor help you to prepare with Aquapel glass treatment for your windshield. Unlike most other rain repellents that sit on top of your glass and can quickly wash away, Aquapel actually forms a chemical bond with the glass. The results are simply amazing! Visit the Aquapel website (scroll to the bottom of the page) to view a video day/night demonstration. Then give Glass Doctor a call at (610)838-2411 about their professional Aquapel application.

“If it’s glass we’ll be able to do it!” says Maureen Augenstein, co-owner and office manager at Glass Doctor. Maureen is passionate about many things but one thing high on her list is windshield safety. As such, she and Dale hold their shop to the strictest of safety standards and require that all of their technicians be AGRSS certified. Here is a link to the shocking video that ignited this passion in Maureen. While this video may never win an Academy Award, it is certainly a must see and may very well save the life of yourself and your loved ones!

Mr. and Mrs. Augenstein are certainly passionate about auto glass safety, but they are also quite passionate about customer service. It isn’t just what they do, it’s who they are and that’s evident within moments of meeting them. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure, just stop by the shop located in Bethlehem/Lower Saucon, at 1850 Friedensville Rd. (Behind Bagel Basket and Susie’s Cleaners.) They’d be more than happy to answer your questions about auto glass safety and anything and everything glass. If you can’t make it to the shop, be sure to visit their web page and also their page on Facebook. While you’re there, take a second to “like” them because they are certainly people worth knowing and liking! Apparently, this passion for customer service runs in the “family” as evidenced when we recently had the opportunity to get to know Dina Dwyer-Owens in an episode of Undercover Boss. Dina is the Chairman and CEO of The Dwyer Group, Glass Doctor’s parent company.
