What difference does it make?

In the wake of President Obama's signing of 23 Executive Orders on gun control, this is the question a number of people are asking. It is a question used as part of the argument by liberals and progressives to undermine the opposition to modifying our unalienable, God-given right to defend ourselves by force of arms. So, what difference does infringing on this right make?

It may seem a foregone conclusion, to current gun owners and supporters of the Second Amendment, that this would lead to our government disarming us completely, and to complete government tyranny shortly after, with little or no meaningful grievance process available to those who would reject the idea of bending knee to bureaucratic dictators. However, this is only the tip of the nightmarish spear.

The true horror lies in the answer to the question, if the American citizens were to be disarmed, where would people go to find freedom? As Ronald Reagan put it, this is the last, best hope for man on earth. If the United States falls to its own government, there is no "superpower" on earth that can play the liberator. More importantly, there is no country on earth that would even try.

Some Americans believe, even if the government were to turn into a dictatorial regime, there would be a repeat of World War II, or the Revolutionary War, or "the South will rise again!" The sad reality is, there would be nothing of the sort. WWII was fought by a people who had not surrendered their values, the Revolutionary War was fought by a people who had not surrendered their arms, and the Civil War proved that the only country capable of beating the United States is...the United States (although, probably more appropriate to call them the Divided States at the time).

If the United States succumbs to tyranny, there is no place left for freedom on this earth. The only way that can happen is through the complete disarmament of the population, and the only way that will happen is if the People let it. With each new executive order, the president makes Congress less relevant. He makes all Americans less relevant. With each new executive order, the president makes you less relevant. So, ask yourself again, why does it matter?
