What Difference Does It Make?

After four months of not saying all that much the now former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finally appeared before Congress to answer a few questions regarding the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Unfortunately, each questioner only had 5 minutes of time to ask Clinton questions. Even more unfortunate is that most of the folks in Congress spent a majority of their 5 minutes speechifying rather than asking direct questions and demanding direct answers. And, once again, Republicans blew an opportunity to get some answers. The other blown opportunity was when presidential candidate Mitt Romney largely avoided the issue during the campaign.

Now, in most of these cases, it would be up to the media to ask the tough, direct questions. But that never happened either. From the get-go, the mainstream media largely ignored or at best played down the Benghazi story. For weeks they kept towing the administration line that what occurred in Benghazi was the result of some stupid little anti-Islamic “movie.” But the “movie” had nothing to do with it. By the way, the “movie” was nothing more than a Youtube video.

When it was finally admitted that the attack on the U.S. consulate was a terrorism and not a mob action, the media reported that, but then went back to ignoring the story. NOT ONCE has someone from the media asked President Obama what he was doing while the attack was taking place.

We do know the State Department was monitoring the attack in real time. Satellites and drones were sending video of the attack back to Washington. We know the attack went on for more than 6 hours. But never during those 6 hours did anyone in Washington do anything to help those Americans under assault. We do know that the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three other Americans were killed during the attack.

We also know that for months, Stevens pleaded for more protection in Libya. We know for months that the head of security in Libya pleaded with Washington for more security. We know that those pleas were ignored. Congress is not at fault. Those on the Left have been trying to peddle the garbage that “budget cuts” caused the lax security. Nonsense. More money has been spent on diplomatic security. Even so, monies spent on diplomatic security in Switzerland could have been transferred to aid in diplomatic security in Libya. Or monies spent on diplomatic security in Japan or Germany or England or some place where security is not an issue and that diplomatic mission is in a friendly country that has friendly security personnel.

During the testimony, Hillary got a little acrimonious with Republican Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson. That is when Hillary’s now sort-of famous screech of “What difference does it make?” occurred. To her, it makes no difference whether the attack was the result of an angry mob out on a nighttime stroll or whether it was a terrorist attack. Sorry, Hillary, but it DOES make a difference! It makes a big difference to those that lost loved ones in Libya. It makes a difference (or should) to the American people. It makes a difference to KNOW what happened so it doesn’t happen again. So, Hillary, it DOES make a difference!

Can you imagine the media’s response if it was Condoleeza Rice who said, “What difference does it make?” Or even the media’s response to the attack and murder of four Americans if George W. Bush was president? Or any Republican for that matter? But, no, we have an adoring, fawning, tingling up my leg media that loves Barack Obama. A media that has Barack Obama’s back. A media that covers up for Barack Obama. And, unfortunately, the media not asking the tough questions doesn’t end with Benghazi. It extends to everything.

For example, the General Accounting Office recently reported that the current budget deficits and debt are unsustainable. That this country will CRASH within 10 years if there is no significant entitlement reform, spending reform, budget reform. Let me repeat: The federal government’s own General Accounting Office recently reported that the United States WILL CRASH within 10 years. Did the mainstream media report this? Nope.

On January 30, the Commerce Department said that the economy shrank in the 4th Quarter of 2012. The Chicago Tribune headline on its website: Economy unexpectedly contracts in 4Q. (By the way, this bit of economic bad news lasted for all of about two hours among the main headlines on the Trib site.) In fact, every time new jobless filers goes up or the unemployment number goes up or the economic numbers look bleak, the media says it is “unexpected.” Perusing through old Chicago Tribune stories from 2003-2007, every time the economy grew or jobless numbers went down or new jobs were created, the Tribune headline said it was “unexpected.”

Basically, all the economic bad news under Obama is “unexpected” by the media, whereas all the good news under George Bush presidency was “unexpected.” That’s the game the media plays.

More news largely ignored by the mainstream media: the Social Security Administration reported that the Disability portion of Social Security will be out of money by 2016. Let me repeat: Social Security Disability will be out of money by 2016. And that those currently getting disability payments from Social Security will see significant reductions in their monthly checks come 2016. Did the mainstream media report this? Not really.

But we have gotten a full dose of information regarding Notre Dame football player Manti Te’o’s imaginary girlfriend. We know more about disgraced Tour de France bicyclist’s Lance Armstrong’s fondness for performance enhancing drugs. We know a lot about that, but very little about the Benghazi attack or the impending dissolution of the disability benefits or that the U.S. will crash and burn within 10 years if present annual budget deficits continue.

Yet, Hillary Clinton is indifferent to what happened in Benghazi. Barack Obama is indifferent about our annual trillion dollar-plus deficits. He is indifferent to the nearing bankruptcy of Social Security and Medicare. In fact, during his inauguration speech, Obama whined how climate change must stop if we are to protect our children’s future. He also whines how gun control needs to be ramped up and the Constitution trampled on to save our children. Yet, our children will have NO future if those current budget deficits continue.

Again, the United States will crash and burn within 10 years, according to the General Accounting Office. In the eyes of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the Corrupt Mainstream Media: “What difference does it make?”
