What Did Selena Gomez Really Reveal to Jimmy Kimmel?

Christian actress Selena Gomez, best known for her portrayal of Alex Russo on the Disney Channel series,  "Wizards of Waverly Place" and her recent role in Princess Protection Program, made an appearance on "The Jimmy Kimmel Show" this week along with NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal. The popular actress, who recently joined the Jonas Brothers in making a public stand to wear a purity ring and abstain from sex until she’s married, was interviewed by Kimmel about her life, her upcoming Disney movie, her TV roles, her CD, and her fans. So what did Selena Gomez really reveal to Jimmy Kimmel?

Selena's Start on Barney

Viewers quickly discovered the 17-year-old Selena is a Spurs fan from Dallas who got her acting start at a very young age opposite a purple dinosaur. Kimmel showed a clip from an early Barney show where Selena sang "Barney's Getting in the Water" with several other adorable tykes. When Jimmy asked her if her Barney days embarrassed her, Selena said she embraced it and that Barney is "a cool guy."  In fact, Selena, who claims she was a shy little girl, once told People Magazine that she "learned everything from Barney."

Selena Gomez on “Wizards of Waverly Place"

Selena dished on all the details about her upcoming “Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie” which airs on the Disney Channel tonight. Claiming she has sweet fans, Selena said her young fans, who are predominantly little kids, all know her as Alex. When the little ones ask Selena if the "Wizards" magic is real, she asks, "Do you believe it's real?" If the young fan answers yes, Selena says,  "Then it's real!"

"Wizards" 2009 Emmy Nomination

“Wizards of Waverly Place" is pitted against "iCarley" and "'Hannah Montana" in the 2009 Emmy Outstanding Children's Program category. Selena said about the nomination "I'm fine with whoever wins as long as it's a Disney show."

Selena Gomez Homeschooled on Set

Not all of her life is fun and glamor as Selena Gomez revealed she is homeschooled in a tiny room on the "Wizards" set along with her two teen costars. Somehow the mischievous young actors have managed to run off three teachers so far! When asked by Kimmel if she had ever received a bad grade from her teacher, Selena admitted she had. However, the spunky actress gave as good as she got, turning the tables on Kimmel with a smart remark about a Scrabble game he had just played with Shaq.

Selena Gomez "Kiss & Tell" CD

Exciting news from Selena Gomez is the releases of her debut CD "Kiss and Tell" which is due out in September. Selena recently announced that the first single off of her first album will be titled "Falling Down" (see video below). Kimmel suggested a future duet with Shaq which had the young actress laughing.

Will Selena Gomez Fall Down?

Selena, who took home three Teen Choice Awards earlier this month (see 2009 Teen Choice Awards dominated by faith-based movies, shows, music and personalities), has recently been paired with Taylor Lautner and Nick Jonas in media stories and photos, but she came across on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" as a sweet, intelligent, and poised young lady. Let's hope (and pray) that Selena Gomez keeps her faith and her wits about her so she can avoid the pitfalls that have caused other young actresses to stumble and fall down.
