What Could the Wine World Learn from Bartenders?

While the wine world is so much more evolved than that of cocktails (please see my other Examiner column), it may still have much to learn from the world of cocktails. The bartenders are the front line of the business and have always exuded charm; they are upping the ante on both cocktail preparation and service.

I currently in Trinidad to cover the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge and one of the bartenders said that the “best garnish for a drink is a smile.” I can’t think of a better way to finish off a drink or any kind of interaction.”

Many of the wine business top experts don’t always seem as gracious in the way they serve guests as might befit their level of knowledge. I wonder if the wine world might not benefit from another smile or two? Your thoughts?
