The next iPhone will come in different colors
According to a January 3 note to investors by analyst Brian White, Apple's next iPhone will come in different colors. Mr. White also suggested that the next iPhone will come in a variety of sizes, a probability that we mentioned yesterday in Report: New iPhone being tested with iOS 7 for likely June announcement.
Brian White suggests that the color options for the new iPhone will be the same colors that are available for the 5th generation iPod touch: black, white, silver, blue, pink and yellow. Currently, the iPhone 5 comes in black and slate, white and silver.
This is a logical progression because the iPod touch 4th generation came in only black or white. The fact that Apple made the 5th generation iPod touch available in colors must mean that customers wanted more choice in colors. The iPod shuffle and nano also come in colors (the iPod classic is only in black and white.
Giving customers more choices in screen size and colors will allow Apple to expand its market according to Mr. White.
“Although Apple offers a 4-inch screen on the iPhone 5 and a 3.5-inch screen on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, the Company has never offered multiple screen sizes for a single model. We believe this is about to change with the next iPhone offering different screen sizes that we believe will allow Apple to better bifurcate the market and expand its reach.”
What Mr. White does not mention, but I will here, is that Samsung offers two sizes of the same model phone. The Galaxy III S has a 4.8 inch display and the Galaxy mini has a display of 3.14 inches.
