Bobby Messano was at Darwin's in Marietta Saturday night with two new members in his band and a beautiful new blues and white Delaney guitar. He played to a packed house and everybody loved him. The band cooked the whole night until we left around midnight and continued until who knows when after we left.
While Bobby did not tell as many tales as he usually does he did tell a few, enough to give the audience a glimpse into his eventful and unconventional life. He played many songs from his latest album Welcome to Deltaville, which garnered 9 first-round Grammy nominations this year, and at one point right before the break invited musician and guitar maker Mike Delaney to join him on stage for two pure blues numbers," Ramblin'" and ""Further Up the Road" that illustrated why Messano is now in the Blues Hall of Fame. He's a truly electrifying singer and musician.
Everyone who missed this show missed something really special. I had friends there who I've been telling about Bobby Messano for several years now who finally came out to see him and they now say they will never miss him again. That's exactly how I felt after I saw him the first time and we've missed very few local shows in the 4 years since then. He only comes through once or twice a year so keep your eyes and ears at the ready and come out to see him next time he's in town.
